Kumar Babu

Consulting Systems Engineer

Kumar Babu has over twenty-five years of experience in project management, systems engineering, and software and hardware design.

During the last twelve years he has focused his efforts on security systems that range from CT based explosive detection systems, to biometric and secure credentialing systems and information security.

Mr. Babu was the Corporate Vice President of Systems Integration at L-1 Identity solutions, Stamford, CT. L-1 Identity solutions is one of the world’s leading providers of systems and technology in all aspects of biometrics and secure credentialing. In his role as Corporate Vice President Mr. Babu was able to synthesize advanced new systems by customizing the integration of many of the biometric and secure credentialing products produced by L-1 Identity solutions. These included facial recognition, iris and fingerprint identification, document authentication and creation of smart identity cards.

Throughout his career Mr. Babu held many key senior positions, including Principal Systems Engineer at Rapiscan and Analogic Corporation, as well as Director of Engineering at L-3 Communications, both in the area of Computerized Tomography (CT) based Explosive Detection Systems (EDS). These positions involved design, development, TSA certification, airport data collection, and deployment and integration with airport baggage systems. Mr. Babu personally directed the development of the eXaminer 6000 and its installation, deployment and integration with the baggage handling systems of Rome’s Fiumicino and Ciampino airports. Mr. Babu also played a leading role in integrating these systems at many U.S. airports including Logan airport, Tampa airport, Manchester airport, and John Wayne airport. Mr. Babu is intimately familiar with the issues relating to and the technologies being used in both rotating and non-rotating gantry CT machines.

Mr. Babu was also a Senior Member of Technical Staff in the Advanced Technology Group of Texas Instruments Defense Systems and developed navigation, guidance and Kalman filter algorithms involving GPS and Inertial Navigation and their integration into military applications.
